Empire State of Walkies....

This week's Walkies ACEO was inspired by a conversation I recently had with S about how many dogs we saw walking around Manhattan with all the gorgeous doggie accoutrements available in American dog accoutrement shops!! We stocked up on a few bits and pieces for our two while we were there as there just isn't the same choice in the UK.

Anyway, I digress.  We talked about how the only thing that could've made our wedding day in Central Park any better than it was, was if Reuben and Brodie had been there.  (Even though, I know for sure they would've jumped up and got dirty paw prints all over my gorgeous champagne dress and we wouldn't have been able to go to the River Cafe for dinner with them in tow!)

Obviously they we couldn't take them with us to New York so, I decided to recreate the scene where we're walking from the hotel to Central Park and add them in! I love artistic licence!

Dogs in the City!
* Also because the other things I was working on this week I can't show you until after 12 June 2011- namely my friend's portrait which I finished and got framed (and only then realised I hadn't scanned it into the computer first-d'oh) this will have to be my contribution to Paint Party Friday!*

  3. I'm chuckling. My daughter is marrying in a few weeks and one of her dogs is going to be a ring bearer, Nicola. It is an outdoor wedding and I hope it doesn't rain or the paw issue might be HUGE! Cute walkies!

  4. Leslie - that's brilliant!! I'm not sure our could've been ring bearers without chewing the cushion the ring was on but its such a great idea!! I would've loved our to be a part of our day so am delighted for your daughter that hers will be so involved! Fingers crossed for a sunny day!

  6. This is brilliant in so many ways, love of a man & woman, love of the extended family, what a wonderful unit, you created a marriage of people, pets, adventure, location all here, I love it, I'm also married to a Scot, we 'did it' in New Orleans, my mother in law still doesn't believe we're married (it's only been 18 years) as we lost the marriage certificate... ahh well, funny race, Fraser didn't wear a kilt, we wore jeans, doc martins (yes me too) & jumpers, it was SOOOOO COLD.... we celebrated with a smoothie & I got brainfreeze... mmm... lasted for 12 hours, so much for the wedding night LOL!

  7. CONGRATS...and as I sit here trying to find a sitter for our dog and our daughters (which we have for her summer in Brazil) - as we have a short notice visit to some friends - awe, wish they could go but not a good idea.
    Love your painting.

  9. Congratulations!!!! I'm sure they were with you in spirit. Isn't it kind of crazy all the silly things we Americans have for purchase for our furry friends. Sometimes I walk into pet shops and there are so many choices I get a headache and have to leave. LOL

  19. O.K. at first I thought that I missed something and you just got married. Since I am relatively new to your blog I had to do some searching, but I found your wedding post. IT WAS TOO AWESOME! (except for the airport going under of course.) I just loved your pictures of you in NY especially the one where you are kissing in the road at Time Square (I think)and your friends finding the spot from FB. So wonderful!

I love your ATC of you walking your dogs in your wedding atire. That would have been the only thing that would have made it better.

  20. Hi Nicola!

Thanks for stoping by my blog! I love this ACEO....such a sweet family portrait with lovely details packed into such a small size!! Congrats on your wedding...what a wonderful thing to commemmorate :)

As to your question regarding the crackle finish...I've had great success with DecoArt One Step Crackle. I have to know I'm going to uses it ahead of time so I can avoid using watersoluble pencils, crayons, etc on my painting which may smear whan I apply it. I just pour it right on the canvas and spread with a paintbrush....then let dry. The thicker the coat, the larger the cracks, thinner...finer. I usually avoid the eyes and top these off with diamond glaze. Oh, and I almost forgot, I rub paint into the cracks when it's dry to bring them out a bit more...
Hope that answers your question :)

    Big hugs,
    Cameron
