Paint Party Friday...the rainbow bridge...

It's been a while since I added to my Walkies series of ACEOs and I thought I would do one of Lennox, who, regular readers of my blog will know, has become the unfortunate poster dog for all that is wrong with Breed Specific Legislation.

Lennox

He lost his fight against Belfast City Council's decision to put him down for 'looking' like a pit bull.  Today was the last day his family could lodge a fresh appeal based on an error in law. At this point, I don't know if they've been able to, but I wanted to mark this day with a tribute to this wee dog and the love he has inspired in people all over the world.

I wanted to depict him running free outdoors where he hasn't been in over 18 months.  There is a poem called The Rainbow Bridge which inspired the background to this painting, although even now, at the last chance saloon, I am hoping for a miracle for this wee dog and that he won't be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge just yet.

I'm linking to Paint Party Friday as always - my favourite group of artists and creatives online.

  2. This story makes me want to cry, why can't the council just do the right thing, is it trying to score political points with the animal haters & whingers of the community? It is a beautiful dog, I love your painting of him, I have just come from the Sarah Fisher blog (followed your link) read her statements & I think it is amazing that the uneducated (in this matter) councilor's are not listening to the advice of someone as knowledgeable as Sarah, I wonder how qualified these people holding Lennox's future in their hands are, they sound misguided, unintelligent & 'pig' headed... I hope they see sense & past their huge egos & lack of empathy to let Lennox go.

  8. Oh, poor Lennox! I feel so bad for him and for his family. This is beautiful. I hope he gets a reprieve. Are you going to send this to his people?

  10. I'm very saddened to hear about Lennox. It's very sad and I hope that the council will understand that Lennox is one of God's little creatures who just wants to be loved and have a home to go to. My heart hurts because today is my Chorizo's anniversary. She's been gone since 2007 but is still missed very much. She was Shar-pei and Chow, a beautiful family pet member. Your painting of Lennox is a wonderful tribute. Keeping my fingers crossed. Please let us know.

  11. It's a very sad case, for sure. Your painting is so beautiful and captures the freedom he so much deserves. I received the poem when my dog died. It is lovely.

  19. How sad, some people are just ignorant of animal behavior and are scared. I as a dog lover am deeply saddened by this. Your painting is a very beautiful and fitting tribute.

  20. At least Lennox is running free in your painting. Maybe the ancient legends of the pictographs will work and if we paint it , we can manifest it! I hope, I hope! Sending love and light to little Lennox and a lightning bolt of insight to those still in the dark at the top of the legislature who have the power to make the right decision and free the little gem! 34. God bless you for finding an unique way to utilize your talents to bring forth issues that should (and, for some, do) matter!

I hope you don't mind but I've used this for my Facebook profile picture, with giving you the credit too (and a link to your page), especially after the Court Ruling came down.
