Sunday Sketches...

Day 43 of 75

I'm still doing the 75 day challenge.  Although I don't think I'm really doing it right in that I haven't been doing one sketch a day but rather missing a chunk of days and then doing two or three sketches at a time to try and catch up.

When I was working from the dog calendar it was easier as I had a pile of photos I knew I was going to sketch and it was just a case of choosing one each day.  Now though, I'm running out of ideas so I just keep Googling animals to get inspiration of what to sketch next.

It's turning into a little bit of a chore, to be honest, but I'm determined to see it through.  I've worked out that my 75th day will be 5 April so not too long to go although I think right now I'm maybe 5 or 6 sketches behind schedule.  Anyhoo,  these are sketches 44 and 45 out of the 56 that I've done since I started the challenge.  Only another 19 to go.  Sigh.

Sketch 44 of 75
I'm linking up with Sunday Sketches hosted by Alexandra.  Pop over to see what new things other folk have been working on this week. Alexandra is also running a competition to name the cute little dog character she has created which you can enter by clicking here!

My other post this week, of an actual painting, if you want to read it, is here:

  1. Awww, it looks like Wilbur from Charlotte's Web. Aren't piglets the most adorable little creatures?

If you are getting bored, maybe you need to switch up a bit and do something else. The whole point of this exercise is to get in the habit of sketching, not to burn yourself out on it. When I start to feel that way about painting I give myself permission to slack off and do something else for a bit and let my love for it build back up.

    1. I know what you mean. It's not really that I'm getting bored as such as I do love drawing any sort of animal, it's just that it's gone from being an exercise in making me get creative everyday to being like a homework that I'm obliged to do (even though no one is making me do it except me!)

  7. Like you there were days where I just couldn't come up with something new and inspiring, but I stuck it out and finished and I'm glad I did because by the end I felt I learned a lot. There's something about completing something we start that has its purpose and reward, so I encourage you not to stop even if it's not consecutive.

I love your painting. Very cool strands of hair, color and it just all pops up and comes to life.

  15. Sometimes i think you have to make your own rules with in the challenges, so you wont get discouraged! But you only have a few more days left, and your sketches are amazing, i just adore your piglet! X

  16. The piglet is SO adorable! My favorite of all so far!
You could always take your camera to the rescue centre and photograph animals you'd like to sketch? Or - instead of burning your self out - why not change the subject completely, perhaps to household objects. You might get a new burst of inspiration from it :0)
I was so relieved to finish the sketch challenge - but really glad I didn't give up :0)

  18. Oh, that piglet is sooo cute! That's not good, when it's turning into a chore .... I had that in the end with the 29 faces challenge, so I can imagine you having it in a 75day challenge! But you're right, you've come this far, might as well get it over with. Just do a few at the same day, then rest for a few days ... Before you know it, you've succeeded!

  20. Awwwwww, that piglet is adorable. Sounds like you're starting to burn out on this 75 day thing. But only 19 more to go sounds do-able. I also like the dog sketch. And your cow painting came out great!
