An art class winner, mini art for sale and a new, old cat

'Dancing Skies' - mixed media mini canvas

Last week I posted about a chance to win an on-line art class courtesy of Craftsy.com. They contacted me last night with the number of folk who entered and I picked a number at random.  The winner is...(drum roll please)...Patsy over at HeARTworks!

Congratulations Patsy, Craftsy.com should have emailed you by now with the details you need to claim your free class. I hope you enjoy it. I still haven't managed to start mine as we have visitors for the next couple of weeks so I'll do that once visiting time is over.

'Stacks' - mixed media mini canvas

I've been working this week on some more mixed media mini canvasses on the Big Skies, Little Planet theme. I had six mini canvasses and I've used them all and that's all there'll be. A limited edition if you like. I'm done with this series for now so if you'd like to buy one you can do so right here on my blog. I've added Paypal buttons to the Big Skies, Little Planet page in the menu or if you prefer, you can click on the paypal button on this post - just email me to let me know which design you want.

'Sky on fire' - mixed media mini canvas

'Full Moon Rising' - mixed media mini canvas

And the two I did a last week:

'Keep the home fires burning'

'Peace and Quiet'

These are £16.50 in my Etsy shop but I'm offering them here for a discounted price of £14.00 for as long as anyone happens by this post and they're still available.

P&P

In other news, we adopted a cat!! Puss Puss (Now re-named Purdey) was the oldest, grumpiest feline in the shelter where I volunteer and she'd been in there since January always getting overlooked for the younger, more affectionate cats. She used to grumble a lot when I'd clean her run out and she certainly wasn't one you could scoop up for a cuddle! Still, I felt sorry for her because she's about 13 years old and was used to being outdoors and I thought it would be really sad if she spent the rest of her days stuck inside in the shelter.

Anyway, I brought her home after my stint at the shelter on Wednesday and she's already made herself very much at home in the back garden and the garage and the back porch which is all glass so she can sit and watch the birds at the bird feeder. It was thought that she couldn't jump any more but it turns out she can jump just fine so the dry stone wall round the garden which was meant to contain her and keep her away from the dogs is not really doing its job which I discovered as I saw her strolling past the living room window a couple of hours after we brought her home!

She's as grumpy as ever she was - I don't think cats do gratitude and we now live in fear of getting scratched simply walking through the garage to hang the washing up in the garden! Still, at least she's not stuck in the shelter any more and maybe she'll mellow once she gets used to her new surroundings! S introduced the dogs to her one at a time today (on their leads) and she reduced Brodie to a whimpering wreck by all accounts so I think she'll be able to hold her own (against all of us!)

This photo pretty much sums up the bad tempered wee madam that she is!!

Purdey - approach with caution!
I'm linking up with Paint Party Friday, with thanks to Eva and Kristin who are still hosting this great event in its third year and growing still!

  5. OK - I've always loved you and your beautiful art - And now I love you even more for your sweet compassionate heart and giving Purdy a home. Even thought she is a bit reluctant to show her gratitude- that she is and more than she will ever express happy to spend her geriatric years in your back garden. You are amazing in your art and in your HEart - xo - m.

  10. I wondered how long it would be before you brought home an animal from that shelter, lol! You actually lasted longer than I thought ;0)

  11. You made me smile with the story of your grumpy new cat :-) Great that you took her in! Mostly cats can look for themselves, at least that is my experience.
Your canvases are lovely! The first one must be a ferry that went to Helgoland! :D

    Happy PPF

  14. Loving your mini art Nic, but your animal protraits really steal my heart every time. I bet Purdey is just putting on an act and will end up nothing but a snuggle bug in the end. Happy PPF xox

  15. I love your new multi-media approach with your minis. I always had cats and they are (for the most part) very independent. My cats were always outdoor cats so I couldn't have one when I moved to my townhouse..cats must be on leashes..what! Anyway, Thank you for your comment on my post. I accidentally around midnight posted the wrong thing. I reposted this morning and am #68! If you get a chance to re-look you will see some of the pastel paintings done at The Clearing.

  16. Love your mini series. I've seen these little canvas easels too and you have made a great job of using them. Good for you bringing Purdey home, although I'd have been inclined to call her Grumpy! heehee.
Hope you have a lovely two weeks with your visitors.

  26. Love the mini art especially the Stacks one. Your Purdey remind me of my late Tinker, she started life out as Tinkerbell because she was the runt in a litter and so cute, but became Tinker or Tinks or as my nephew called her 'The cat from the Gates of Hell' She had attitude plus big time. She passed away 2 years ago at the ripe old age of 22!

  27. Congrats on the new member of your family. The cat is beautiful. I think she is just being ornery, which cats are good at. In time she will come to love her new home, I think. Love your mini canvasses.

  31. I love your Big Skies, Small Planet series, they are so adorable. And I really like the collage element with the book paper showing through with your mini canvases.
How good for Purdey to have found a nice home at last. She definitely looks a real grumpy madam. But maybe she'll become mellow once she realises that she's in a good and save home. I can't wait to have a cat again myself one day.

I also think you might have accidentally adopted my grandmother reincarnated as a cat.
