custom pet portrait+staffie+acrylic+Nicola McLean
Custom Pet Portrait giveaway - 5x5 inch box canvas just like this one!

Well, the competition for the pet portrait give-away to promote my new animal and pet portrait website Animal-art-and-soul.com  closed yesterday - thank you to everyone who took the time to enter and even if you didn't win this time, everyone who subscribed to my Newsletter has received a 10% discount code for use towards any custom portrait commissioned via my website during the month of September 2014 so if you want to treat yourself or someone else for Christmas now's the time to take advantage of the discount!

I selected a winner at random using the Rafflecopter widget and that person is (drumroll please).....Wendy Tibby Brown. Congratulations Wendy, you've just won a custom pet portrait of your fur baby. I'll send you an email to confirm and to let you know what I need from you to complete the portrait.

I've just started a new commission of a gorgeous wee cockapoo called Monty and have another two commissions lined up after that which is great (so Wendy I'll get yours started as soon as I've finished those!) and I've had some super exciting news which I'm hoping to be able to share with you later this week - do pop back if you feel the suspense might kill you. ;0)

The beginnings of Monty's portrait

In other news, I'd mentioned before that S is building me an art studio out of pallets. He has a delivery of 25 coming tomorrow so hopefully he'll be able to get started soon but as it's all about
up-cycling, how long it takes depends on how soon he can get free pallets (he has plenty of contacts via his job and they all want shot of them so are delighted that he wants to take them off their hands!)

Anyway, while he's waiting to start work on the studio itself he decided to start making lots of quirky little things to go inside it once it is built. He started today by making me this from a piece of wood he found on the beach last week and old lamp fittings that were gathering dust in the garage!

The wood S found on the beach

Sanded and smoothed

Ready for a light fitting

Light fitting added

My paw print logo added and a light wood stain

The finished up-cycled lamp!
Isn't it fabulous! I love it and can't wait to have a studio to put it into! Thanks again to everyone who entered the give away and I hope you'll continue to pop back from time to time now that you've found Nic's eARTh.

  1. YaY !! Congrats to Wendy :-)
What a marvelous lamp and how exciting to be getting a studio built :-D So good to hear you are 'up-cycling' stuff and what a bonus being able to get free pallets. :-D
Such a cute little fellow for the next portrait, but I don't envy you with him being black and that sort of 'hair' I really hate doing ones like that !!!

    Hope all is well.

  3. Oh Harumph! I didn't win! :) But I'm thrilled for Wendy. She's one lucky gal to get a pet portrait. Monty is looking great so far and now I can't wait to hear your big news.

And is there anything S can't do? That lamp is gorgeous. And I can't wait to see your new studio once it's done.

  4. Hi Nic. Wow!!! Your husband is a genius. Love what he did with the wood and do you know what?? Right now my hubber's is chopping down a couple of old trees to make room for building his green house and I'll have to go check and see what the pieces look like. Awesome, just awesome as your work. Congrats to Wendy on her win.

  10. Just wanted to let you know that Tibby arrived home yesterday. She's been finding her place and has settled next to her ashes.
She looks beautiful, the blue background greying her brown hair and her eyes sparkling and questioning and loving.
I love her so much and she looks settled and content in her picture - the reproduction above can't do justice to just how amazing, thoughtful, and alive the actual painting is.
I'm extremely grateful to you for this Nicola. I feel that you've given me back a part of my memory of my cat.
    Thank you.

    Wendy. xx
